Why are descending device, karabiners and slings delivered with the PME?
The equipment provides an emergency descent system.
Is the efficiency of the rope grab affected by wet ropes or ice and snow?
No, the efficiency of the rope grab is as good with dry as with wet ropes
Does the PME work at high altitudes?
The lifting capacity will decrease at heights due to the thinner air. E.g. at 2000 meter above sea level the lifting capacity is reduced to approx. 120 kg. For work at higher altitudes a special high altitude carburetor can be ordered from ActSafe, increasing the lift capacity.
Can I use dynamic ropes?
No, only static / semi static ropes 10-13mm, fulfilling EN1891 can be used. There is a big difference how well different ropes perform, please see the list of ActSafe approved ropes.
How long will a rope last?
A slightly nappy / fuzzy mantle can be accepted but replace the rope if there are any fractures on the mantle so that the core is visible. Read the instructions of the rope manufacturer and keep a log of the usage of the rope. The life time will differ with usage and also which rope is used, please see ActSafe's approved ropes list.
How fast can I descend?
All descents must be done in a controlled way in accordance with the instructions of the descending device. Read and understand it, it also has information on max load and distance. Always control the descent by holding the dead end of the rope during the descent.
How long does a rope grab last?
It depends on the working environment. Sand or rock flour together with wet rope will wear down the rope grab faster. As long as the lifting capacity is OK the rope grab doesn't need to be changed. Generally the rope grab lasts at least 3-4 years with clean ropes.
Can I change the safety bolt myself if its broken?
No, if the safety bolt has been broken the PME must be inspected by ActSafe, to make sure there is no damage on the system. Contact your local dealer
How much can I lift?
SWL (Safe Working Load) is 200kg, max load for rescue is 250 kg
What kind of petrol can I use?
ActSafe recommends 4-stroke alkylate. PME can also be run on regular lead free petrol >91 octane
What kind of oil shall be used in the engine of PME?
SAE 10W-30 multi grade
